Frou Frou & Imogene Heap
OK, it might take you a minute to adjust that "I only like what I know" part of your brain. Imogene Heap's vocal expressions are incredibly original. And as anything wholly original, at first you're not sure if you like it. But if you give it a second, you usually find yourself fully intrigued or repulsed. In this case, I think you find yourself captivated.
Guy Sigsworth is the other very talented part of this duo named Frou Frou, and his production skills are impressive. Between the two of them, beautifully crafted tunes emanate. The lyrics are provocative, the sound-scape is plush, and the the total effect is emotionally moving. This is something really rare in a lot of modern music. (God, I feel old just saying that).
Satisfy your mood for something that's really different and has substance. Listen to everything you can from Frou Frou.
Key tunes.....way too many to mention.
This is impressive.

ROBY DUKE: "Ghost"
© 2004 MasaliMusic http://www.robyduke.com/Having been a fan of the little known, Roby Duke since the early 80's, I was anxious to see what his instrumental CD would entail. I always appreciated his vocal stylings, songwriting, and musicianship, but didn't know if he could carry an entire CD with just instruments. Well he did....and he didn't.
The bottom line is this, "Ghost" is one of the most original and moving pieces of work I have been privy to. The textures are creative and awe inspiring. The tunes are executed brilliantly. Roby shows you a look into his soul that only his music could provide. And your spiritual itch gets scratched in places you didn't think it could. The catch is, this isn't just an instrumental CD. There are vocals, but Duke uses his vocals as an additional palette from which to create. Cleverly, he mixes his vocals beneath the surface of the melodies creating a human longing without the limitations of intelligible words. For a singer, this shows great restraint and appreciation for the power of just music.
This CD is something that must be experienced by anyone who feels the music go all the way down.
Stand-Out Tracks: "Walking in Georgetown", "Pandemic", "Lakota Dream", "Melizzma", "Boo Dancing", "Deception Pass"
Pick it up today and enjoy!
