If there was ever an example of a music industry train wreck, this is it. I'm just very sorry my beloved Sting was a part of it.
Someone thought it was a good idea to expose The Police to some younger fans by bringing this opportunistic asshole on stage during a classic. Sting didn't even know who he was. At least it seemed that way since he pronounced Kanye's name incorrectly. The only credit I will give Kanye is that he seemed uncomfortable, possibly indicating he understood the company he was in. His non-musical rants and "huh!"s were only overshadowed by the lack of class he displayed in constantly interjecting over Sting's verse. In fairness to Kanye, he's a pretty good producer. In fairness to the truth, he's a pretty big asshole. (which can be seen here)....I do love the comedic value of Mike Myers' face in this clip, though.
John Mayer did show a tanker full of taste however, by standing to the side and quietly paying homage to the legends.
Thank you, John. You give us hope that someone can be in the music business these days and still have talent and a little class.....I told myself I wouldn't cry......anyone got a tissue?....
